Terrestrial Ecology Unit (TEREC)

Terrestrial Ecology Unit (TEREC)

The Terrestrial Ecology Unit (TEREC) studies patterns and processes underlying the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems. It therefore runs competitive research programs on population and community dynamics, biotic interactions and life-history strategies in a wide suite of plants and animals. Research activities comprise field observations, field and lab experiments and computer simulations, and are conducted within both a fundamental (evolutionary-ecological) and applied (conservation-oriented) framework. TEREC researchers are active in various national and international research networks.

Research activities within the domain of Blue Growth are centered to projects at the marine-land interface. They comprise ocean-health studies using land-breeding sea birds as sentinels for environmental change and research on nature-based solutions to apply sustainable and cost-effective management approaches to create more natural coasts that are resilient to erosion, flooding and sea-level rise.
