Peter Vandamme

Peter Vandamme is professor at the Laboratory of Microbiology in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the Faculty of Sciences of Ghent University. His team performs research focused on basic and applied aspects of microbial diversity in human, insect, environmental and food microbiology. Among his key technological interests are the large scale cultivation, dereplication (i.e. the selection of genetically unique strains) and identification of microbial isolates for which a high-throughput infrastructure is available (https://www.ugent.be/we/biochemicro/en/research/

). Recent research topics include studies of microbial diversity in electroactive biofilms, unusual infectious agents in humans and animals, the gut microbiota of pollinator insects and the microbiota of fermented foods.
