Kristof Demeestere

Kristof Demeestere is Associate Professor at the EnVOC research group of the Department of Green Chemistry and Technology at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Ghent University. His research interests and activities deal with organic trace compounds in ecosystems with particular focus on high-resolution mass spectrometry based screening and (ultra-)trace analysis, new strategies for passive sampling and monitoring the occurrence, fate and behavior of emerging organic micropollutants in the aquatic/marine environment, and ozone-, UV- or catalyst-based advanced oxidation processes for their removal from (waste)water. He is co-chairing the steering committee of the Ghent University Centre of Excellence MSsmall, (co-)authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers (H-index: 36, > 4000 citations) in high-quality journals, and has so far been the promoter of 11 successfully defended PhD dissertations.

Prof. Dr. ir. Kristof Demeestere has expertise on:

  • Contaminants of emerging concern;
  • Micropollutants;
  • Air and water quality;
  • Environmental organic trace analysis;
