Thijs Vandenbroucke

Within the Palaeontology and Palaeo-environments research group, Prof. Dr. Thijs Vandenbroucke’s main focus is to understand the causative mechanisms behind mass-extinction events of marine organisms. Using the fossil record and geochemistry of these fossils, his current research projects focus on the linkages between Ocean Anoxic Events (OAEs), glaciations, oceanic metal pollution, plankton teratology and decline of marine diversity. Most of the case studies his group is currently focused on, are from the Palaeozoic rock record. Prof. Dr. Vandenbroucke’s core expertise is on the palaeobiology, distribution and (isotope and trace element) geochemistry of fossil Palaeozoic plankton.
