Koen Chiers
Koen Chiers is full professor at Ghent University and manager of the Veterinary Pathology Unit. He holds a PhD and is an European Specialist in Veterinary Pathology (Dipl ECVP). He does not only provide diagnostic veterinary pathology service, he also has a broad interest in veterinary aquatic animal health including fresh and marine organisms all well as marine mammals. The main research area concerns bacteria-host interactions using in vitro and in vivo models, including histopathological, immunohistochemical and image analysis. In the field of the blue life sciences, Prof. Dr. Koen Chiers has a track record as a promotor of PhDs dealing with electrofishing on shrimp and sole, landing live shrimp and skin ulcerations in dab.
