INVE Aquaculture Master Thesis Awards presented for the second time
About the awards
In the academic year 2021 - 2022, INVE Aquaculture has presented for the second time its Master Thesis Awards to honor Master Theses from three faculties of Ghent University: the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
The awards aim to recognize and reward the work of deserving young researchers. By doing so, INVE Aquaculture hopes to encourage them to continue to make high-quality scientific contributions that benefit the continuous development of the aquaculture industry.
INVE Aquaculture has committed to fund two seperate thematic awards for the amount of € 1.000 / award:

The thematic award for innovation in aquaculture, for applied research with significant contribution towards the advancement of the aquaculture industry, addressing one of the following challenges: innovation and smart technologies, feed and feeding, or biosecurity and aquatic animal health management.

The thematic award for sustainable societal impact in aquaculture, for applied research with significant contribution towards the advancement of the sustainable societal impact of the aquaculture industry, addressing one of the following challenges: environment, animal welfare, or social and human dimensions.

Thematic award for innovation in aquaculture:
Emmanuel Legaspi (Ghent University, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) for the thesis "Immunological functions of lymphocyte-like haemocytes in shrimp – In vitro detection of torso-like protein and granzyme B immunoexpression by lymphocyte-like haemocytes isolated from Pacific white shrimp, L. vannamei" (Promotors: Prof. Dr. Hans Nauwynck, DVM & Prof. Dr. ir. Peter Bossier)

Thematic award for sustainable societal impact in aquaculture:
Floriele Gonzaga (Ghent University, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, in collaboration with the Faculty of Sciences) for the thesis "Gametophyte reproduction, development, and cultivation of Undaria pinnatifida and Saccharina latissima" (Promotor: Prof. Dr. Olivier De Clerck)
